Best Porto Pastel de Nata Cooking Class Options
Pastel de Nata, a delicious custard tart pastry, is a cherished Portuguese traditional delicacy. This crispy, flaky layered tart has a rich, creamy egg-custard filling with a dusting of cinnamon. If you are looking to join a Porto Pastel de Nata cooking class, then you are in the right spot.

We will share our insights on the best workshop that you can take, learn, and savour those delicious sweet tarts. The origins of Pastel de Nata are rather ambiguous, but the consensus is that this iconic pastry was created by the monks of Jerónimos Monastery (Mosteiro dos Jerónimos) in Lisbon somewhere around the 18th century.
However, there are food historians who believe the creation of Pastel de Nata dates as far back as the 16th century. Either way, today, no visit to Portugal is complete without savouring some delectable Pastel de Nata, and we vote to relish this divine pastry with a cup of hot local coffee!

1. Pastel de Nata Pastry-Making Workshop
We booked a Pastel de Nata workshop during one of our earlier visits to Portugal, and participating in this interactive class was, without a doubt, an enjoyable learning experience in a relaxed environment.
This workshop is conducted in English at the Boiler Studio situated on Rua dos Caldeireiros, a short 2-minute walk from Clerigos Church and Tower, a 3-minute walk from Rua da Flores, and a 5-minute walk from São Bento Train Station.
The duration of this Pastel de Nata Pastry Making Workshop in Porto is around 1.5 hours. This pastry-making workshop is also a fun learning activity for small groups, limited to a maximum of 8 participants.
During our workshop, we learnt how to bake the custard tart and also learnt about its history. I had a great time sipping a glass of wine (you can get a mimosa or coffee) whilst waiting for the baking process to complete.
We later sat down to enjoy some of the pasteis de nata ourselves before leaving the studio.
