Established in 1692, Taylor Fladgate is one of the oldest and most cherished port wine houses in Portugal. Endowed with centuries of vinification traditions, carefully preserved within its historic lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia, Taylor’s Port House is undeniably among the most celebrated names in port wine.

During our time in Porto, we embarked on a Self-Guided Tour of Taylor’s Wine Cellars, where we were immersed in fascinating chronicles of port wine – from its origins in the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley to its meticulous aging in the famed port cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
Wandering through the cellars on this guided tour felt like stepping into centuries of winemaking history, all leading up to a beautiful tasting of Taylor’s signature port wines.
Their terraces and gardens were a wonderful sight where you can soak in the wonderful vibes of the wine district, sort of teleporting you to a quinta with lovely gardens, peacocks, and green patio furniture.
Wine Tasting Experience – Taylor Wine Cellar Porto
Taylor’s Port House offers a variety of guided tours at their port wine cellars located on Rua do Choupelo.
Their cellar is right across from the WOW Cultural District and a short 5-minute walk from Gaia Riverside Promenade and a 20-minute walk from Ribeira in Porto. This self-guided cellar tour takes you through Taylor’s remarkable journey spanning four centuries.
For this self-guided tour, Taylor’s offers audio guides that are available in 13 languages, which you can grab after checking them at the front desk.
As you wander through a series of exhibits, photographs, and films, you will uncover the rich history of this illustrious port house. The experience offers fascinating insights into the production of some of the finest port wines – from grape selection and fermentation to maturation in oak vats within the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia.
After immersing yourself in the history and craftsmanship behind port wine, you will step into their tasting room to indulge in some port wine tasting. This tour includes a tasting of 3 port wines – Taylor’s Chip Dry (Extra Dry White), Taylor’s Late Bottled Vintage Port (LBV), and 10-year-old Tawny. Children will be served a glass of grape juice from the Douro Valley.
You are allowed to grab your drinks and sit outdoors too – which we recommend! When the weather is fine, just step outside and enjoy outstanding views of the River Douro and Porto from the property’s terraces, accompanied by the presence of wandering peacocks!
